Buffalo Bills defensive end Von Miller has received a four-game suspension from the NFL following a determination that the eight-time Pro Bowler breached the league’s Personal Conduct Policy.
This means that Miller, who is 35 years old, will not receive any compensation until he is reinstated, which will be after the Bills’ Week 8 game against the Seattle Seahawks on October 28. The suspension is believed to be related to a November 2023 incident, during which he allegedly assaulted his pregnant girlfriend.
It is important to note that Miller voluntarily turned himself into law enforcement following the issuance of a warrant for his arrest on a charge of third-degree felony assault of a pregnant woman, but he was later released after posting a $5,000 bond.
For context, the case was closed in the summer without any charges being filed, and Miller has publicly denied the allegations against him.
In December 2023, Miller addressed the matter on his Instagram account.
“Honestly, I wasn’t on social media before and definitely not on social media now. But from the things that have been brought to my attention, everything is false. And I would love to sit here and say, ‘Y’all know me!’ But it’s not, this is not that type of situation because domestic violence really happens around the world — for men and women. And it’s a serious situation so I would not pull that card… All I can say is it is just a matter of time before everything gets set straight.”
That said, the NFL conducted its own investigation and identified evidence of misconduct. An affidavit detailing the events was acquired by ESPN, outlining the incidents that occurred.
“The allegations against Miller include him putting a hand, and later both hands, on the woman’s neck for about three to five seconds, pulling her hair, and trying to shove her while she was attempting to gather her belongings and leave after he told her to get out of the apartment where they both lived.” (according to ESPN)
This incident isn’t Miller’s first violation of league policy; he previously served a six-game suspension for using performance-enhancing substances in 2013.
Throughout his 13 seasons in the NFL, Miller has accumulated 126.5 sacks, placing him 17th on the all-time record list.
Miller’s next opportunity to return to the field will be during the Bills’ Week 9 game against the Dolphins on November 3.
