Travis Hunter, a standout for the University of Colorado Buffaloes, is emerging as one of college football’s most recognized talents. His playstyle is distinctive, as he excels on both sides of the field, performing as a cornerback on defense and as a wide receiver on offense.
Travis Hunter Shares His Terms for Staying at Colorado
Hunter will be eligible for the draft this spring and is anticipated to declare for the 2025 NFL Draft, where he is projected to be among the top selections.
However, he still has the possibility of foregoing the draft and continuing his career in Boulder. When he was playfully asked about the cost to keep him at Colorado, Hunter quipped that it would take $40 million.

Deion Sanders Responds to Pat McAfee
The Buffaloes have caught many by surprise this season, largely thanks to Hunter’s exceptional performances. On offense, he is experiencing the most productive season of his collegiate career, having already surpassed his personal best in receiving touchdowns, with the season only halfway through.
Defensively, he has also excelled, recording 10 solo tackles and two interceptions this season. His standout performances have many analysts believing he is a frontrunner for the Heisman Trophy by year’s end. Yet during College Gameday, host Pat McAfee mentioned that he ranked Hunter second in the Heisman race.
Buffaloes’ head coach, Deion Sanders, was quick to challenge that assertion.
“And how is that? How do you even fix your mouth to say that? How do you even fix your mouth to say that?” Sanders remarked to McAfee.
“Travis Hunter and second place have never gotten along.”
This is not the first occasion this week that Coach Sanders expressed dissatisfaction with the media. Earlier, Sanders was questioned by a reporter about who was the superior two-way athlete—himself or Hunter—which he took issue with.
“It’s not me against Travis,” Sanders stated in a recent press conference. “I had my time, man. I’m not a doorknob anymore. You can’t just turn me on and off like a light switch anymore. I don’t do that. Travis is everything. He is ‘it.’ It’s his time now. I want him to receive all the accolades, all the praise, all the love, all the attention, and all the focus he desires. I’ve had my turn.”
