The Las Vegas Raiders evidently weren’t impressed sufficiently by rookie Woo Gardner. Therefore, they are parting ways with the novice defensive back, according to Aaron Wood of KRPC-TV.

However, there’s no need to worry, as Gardner is expected to attract interest from other NFL franchises after delivering a commendable performance during the preseason.

“Governor, a 23-year-old cornerback, was an All-MVFC First Team selection at Northern Iowa but went undrafted this year,” wrote Darryn Albert of Larry Brown Sports. “Upon signing with the Raiders as an undrafted free agent, Governor demonstrated a solid preseason, tallying 10 combined tackles and showcasing impressive moments in coverage.”

The true first name of Woo is DeMarcus. Nonetheless, “Woo” is more likely to catch the attention of the media — despite the fact that this may not have been the original purpose of the nickname. He is among only seven athletes in Northern Iowa’s history to return two interceptions for touchdowns. Overall, he recorded four INTs and 123 tackles at UNI.

Like every NFL team, Las Vegas needs to reduce its roster from 90 players to the league maximum of 53 by 1 p.m. on Tuesday.

The Raiders are aiming to recover from a 6-11 season. They commence with an away game against the AFC West rival Los Angeles Chargers on Sept. 8.

In addition to Governor, they will also be releasing quarterback Nathan Peterman, as conveyed by Myles Simmons of Pro Football Talk.

“Peterman, aged 30, joined Las Vegas for his second tenure with the organization earlier this month after being released by New Orleans. He completed 12-of-19 passes for 108 yards with one touchdown during preseason,” Simmons wrote. “Throughout 15 career games, Peterman has achieved a completion rate of 53 percent for 712 yards, along with four touchdowns and 13 interceptions.”

“The Raiders will be starting Gardner Minshew at quarterback, with Aidan O’Connell serving as the backup. The team also has undrafted rookie Carter Bradley on its roster at that position.”
