“I don’t know what’s going on this year. There have been numerous injuries throughout the league,” Micah Parsons expressed during an episode of The Edge podcast. With a reported average of at least 25 injuries each week during the 2024 NFL season thus far, the concern voiced by the Cowboys linebacker appears to be warranted.

This situation has understandably sparked worries among players. Parsons drew a parallel to the 2021 season, infamous for its significant injury toll. The ongoing issue has also hampered various teams, including the 49ers, who currently hold a 4-4 record this season.

Parsons recounted the impact of injuries, mentioning how Trevon Diggs’ brother, Stefon Diggs, faced a season-ending injury. He emphasized the broader consequences these injuries have on families and remarked:

“It’s kind of horrific, man. You hate to see it because it’s a brotherhood, and we always want to see each other healthy and get home safe to our kids or whatever. But it’s just been so demoralizing recently with the injuries. I saw what’s going on with your brother, so I am praying for him too.”

In response, co-host and teammate Trevon Diggs acknowledged the ongoing wave of injuries impacting many players. Parsons then raised the question of whether the type of playing surface—grass or turf—could influence injury occurrences. Diggs recounted his personal experience, mentioning that his knee tends to hurt on turf, and added:

“Yes, it’s been a tough year across the league in the NFL. A lot of injuries, a lot of guys going down. I feel like it’s making it tough for everybody just trying to win those games. Trying to win without key pieces, that’s tough to do. It’s been a crazy year.”

It’s worth noting that the Cowboys linebacker is also facing his own challenges with a high-ankle sprain, causing him to miss three straight games. Parsons highlighted several high-profile players who suffered injuries just last week to underscore his point.

“This year, it’s just been so hectic. Last week, it was Chris Godwin and Mike Evans. It just seems like every week, somebody new is going through hardship.”

Several players, including Christian McCaffrey, remain sidelined, while others like Jordan Love and Tua Tagovailoa have made their returns to the field. However, the overarching reality is clear: the incidence of injuries in the NFL is escalating this year, a concerning trend.
