Colin Hurley, a freshman quarterback with the LSU Tigers, was discovered unresponsive in his vehicle following an early-morning accident on campus.
As reported by news outlet WBRZ, sources indicated that Hurley’s Dodge Charger collided with a tree at the intersection of South Quad Drive and Highland Road. The crash took place around 2:45 a.m. on Thursday.
The report states that firefighters extracted an unresponsive Hurley from the car, noting he had sustained a significant facial cut. He was breathing but fluctuated between states of consciousness.
WBRZ reported that police do not believe that impairment was a factor in the accident. Currently, there are no updates regarding Hurley’s medical health.
A native of Jacksonville, Hurley joined LSU last season as a true freshman at the age of 16, having reclassified. Initially part of the 2025 recruiting class, he joined the Tigers a year ahead of schedule.
Throughout the last season, Hurley served as the backup for starting quarterback Garrett Nussmeier and is anticipated to continue in this role while Nussmeier directs the LSU offense.
Prior to his time at LSU, Hurley participated in 40 games for Trinity Christian Academy from 2020 to 2024. He completed over 50% of his passes for a total of 5,984 yards, achieving 67 touchdowns and 25 interceptions.
Hurley’s most impressive passing season came during his senior year (2023-24), as recorded by MaxPreps, where he amassed 2,242 yards with 26 touchdowns and seven interceptions.
In addition, Hurley led the Trinity Christian Academy Conquerors to an FHSAA State Championship as a freshman in the 2021-22 season. He contributed to the championship game with 125 passing yards, one touchdown, and one interception, while running backs Darnell Rogers and Treyaun Webb combined for 353 rushing yards and five touchdowns.
Having captured his second state championship at the tender age of 14, Hurley made history in his freshman year. Trinity Christian Academy noted that he became the youngest African American high school quarterback in Jacksonville to secure a state championship.
