Newly appointed North Carolina head football coach Bill Belichick has made his debut on X (previously known as Twitter), and the 72-year-old quickly shared his inaugural message.

“‘Beat Dook’ my first words as a boy are my first words on X! Go Heels,” declared the former head coach of the New England Patriots.

For those unfamiliar, Belichick is following in the path of his father, Steve Belichick, who served as an assistant coach at Chapel Hill between 1953 and 1955, during Bill’s early years.

With his new social media engagement, there may be positive implications for North Carolina’s recruiting efforts, as the seasoned NFL head coach can now connect with younger audiences.

This Monday marked the beginning of the recruiting period when college coaches were first allowed to visit high schools, and Belichick made the most of this opportunity.

Among the prospects he met was Zavion Griffin-Hayes, who holds the title of 12th ranked edge rusher (No. 179 overall prospect) nationwide.

“He was telling me things that coaches have never mentioned before,” said Griffin-Hayes regarding his interaction with the iconic coach. “He showed me aspects of my game and shared insights about the NFL and the program’s potential.”

During his appearance on the Pat McAfee Show, Belichick discussed his ventures on the recruiting front, stating, “We’re also officially on Twitter, you can follow me there.”

“Welcome to X, pal,” McAfee replied.

Belichick was also queried about the New England Patriots’ decision to dismiss his former player Jerod Mayo after a disappointing 4-13 season.

“Regarding the Patriots’ situation, I don’t have much to say. The decision-makers there are Robert Kraft, Jonathan Kraft, and Robyn Glaser,” Belichick commented.

Many are eager to see whether the eight-time Super Bowl-winning coach (six times with the Patriots and twice as a Giants defensive coordinator) can replicate his pro success at the collegiate level.

Importantly, Belichick ranks as the second-most successful coach in NFL history with a record of 333 wins and 178 losses.
