A couple of weeks ago, Deebo Samuel participated in only four snaps before he began to experience difficulty breathing, requiring oxygen support. The situation escalated quickly when medical professionals discovered fluid buildup in his lungs and rushed him to the hospital. Samuel later reflected on how terrifying that experience was.
In an engaging episode of Cleat and Convos, Deebo recounted his fight against Pneumonia, labeling it a frightening period. He described that he first felt unwell in the morning, feeling fatigued and lacking energy, which he initially attributed to missing breakfast.
Though he received an IV bag and underwent breathing treatments, his condition did not improve and he remained drained as the game commenced. The San Francisco 49ers were facing the undefeated Kansas City Chiefs in Week 7.
Deebo disclosed that he struggled to catch his breath, with breathing becoming increasingly challenging.
”Yeah, that was no joke. It felt like an elephant was sitting on my chest. I called my IV lady over and got an IV. I arrived at the stadium and still didn’t have any energy. I thought maybe I just needed some sugar or something. We tried everything. I attempted to warm up before the game and I felt like I was literally on my last breath.”
The star wide receiver of the San Francisco 49ers opted for another IV, hoping to push through the game under those conditions. Unfortunately, that decision backfired as his condition worsened, resulting in a hospital visit where he remained for two days.
Fortunately, Deebo Samuel made a swift recovery within a week and delivered a stellar performance against the Cowboys, as he typically does. Currently, he is contending with rib and oblique strains, having had limited practice on Wednesday. The 49ers are set to face the Buccaneers on Sunday, and with three other wide receivers, his health is crucial for the team.
