Bill Belichick, the six-time Super Bowl champion NFL head coach, may be considering a move to the college coaching realm.
Recent reports indicate that the former Patriots head coach, who spent 24 years with the team, has conducted an interview for the open coaching position at North Carolina. The 72-year-old might be among the front-runners to succeed Mack Brown.
Brown was dismissed after achieving a 44-31 record during his six-year tenure.
This opportunity could be well-suited for the renowned NFL coach, as the Tar Heels urgently require a leader to revitalize the program, having secured just one bowl victory in the last ten years (a 55-13 triumph against Temple in the 2019 Military Bowl).

It’s worth noting that Belichick and the Patriots parted ways on January 11, 2024. Since then, he has declined positions, including an offer for the defensive coordinator role with both the San Francisco 49ers and LA Rams.
Adam Schefter from ESPN had earlier reported that Belichick is aiming to return to coaching in 2025. Yet, many observers expected the veteran NFL head coach to continue his career in professional football rather than transition to the NCAA.
In addition to his two Super Bowl victories as the Giants’ defensive coordinator, Belichick has led the Cleveland Browns (1991-1995) and the Patriots (2000-2023) as their head coach.
Over his career, he has achieved a regular season record of 302-165 and a postseason record of 31-13. His total of 333 wins ranks him as the second-winningest coach in NFL history, trailing only Don Shula (347).
If Belichick decides to pursue a career in college coaching, he might connect well with the 18-22-year-old athletes, especially considering he is currently in a relationship with recent college graduate and cheerleader Jordon Hudson.
