Aaron Rodgers, now 40 years old, finds himself uncertain about his future. He and the Jets have faced significant challenges this season, as the organization aims for a complete overhaul. Many key figures have already departed, including head coach Robert Saleh, leading to speculation among fans about whether Rodgers might be the next to go.
More importantly, there are questions about whether the veteran quarterback will even return to play after this season. Rodgers addressed his future during an appearance on the Pat McAfee show:
“I think, at this point, I’m open to everything and attached to nothing. … A lot can change … but playing in New York would obviously be my first choice, if I wanted to play.”
Rodgers is well aware of his age and appears uncertain about his desire to continue playing. Refuting speculation that he aims to extend his career into 2025 elsewhere than with the Jets, Rodgers clarified:
“As far as my future goes, I haven’t told anybody in my life that I wanna play in 2025 [but not for] the Jets. That’s 100% false…I’m gonna wait and see what happens at the end of the season, if they want me back…When you’re 40, going on 41, you’re obviously at the end of your career.”
These statements from Rodgers follow a report from The Athletic indicating that he has little interest in continuing with the Jets after two seasons with the organization.
Regardless of Rodgers’ intentions, it appears the Jets may also be inclined to move on. Their 2024 campaign with him has turned out to be even more tumultuous than the 2023 season with rookie quarterback Zach Wilson.
According to reports, Jets owner Woody Johnson is contemplating letting Aaron Rodgers go following this season, which has only seen him complete one full year with the team. With seven games left in the season, the Jets’ playoff hopes seem dim, and the chances of Rodgers leading them to a championship appear even more unlikely.
