Aaron Rodgers is gearing up for another attempt at starting with the New York Jets in the upcoming season, but Colin Cowherd is not exactly enthusiastic. Even before Rodgers has taken a single play, Cowherd has already generated controversy by ranking him 11th in the quarterback lineup.
In “The Colin Cowherd Podcast,” the NFL analyst was candid about his views on the veteran quarterback’s current position in the league. Initially, Cowherd questioned whether Rodgers still possesses the skills needed to be considered top-tier, particularly in a highly competitive AFC:
To add fuel to the fire, Cowherd went further by suggesting that Rodgers is “closer in caliber to Dak Prescott than Patrick Mahomes” when ranking the Top Quarterbacks in the league. According to Cowherd, Rodgers isn’t just declining in performance; he could potentially pose a weakness for the Jets.
Rodgers has been struggling in practice, with mistimed plays and poor connections with his receivers. The New York Post reported that during Monday’s practice, he completed only 11 passes out of 27 attempts and had a streak of five consecutive incomplete passes.
These issues have raised doubts about Rodgers’ effectiveness among analysts like Cowherd. Although some analysts may doubt Rodgers’ performance in the upcoming season, his supporters are not jumping to conclusions too quickly.
Fans criticize Cowherd for his “disrespectful” viewpoint
As Cowherd gave his critical evaluation of Rodgers, fans rushed to defend the veteran quarterback. Fans highlighted the numerous accomplishments of the QB and accused Cowherd of harboring negative biases.
While some agreed with the analyst, others suggested that even if Rodgers ranks as the 6th best QB in the AFC, the Jets could still secure a playoff spot.
Fans continue to believe in Rodgers, eagerly anticipating his second chance with the Jets in the upcoming season. All eyes will be on Rodgers to demonstrate whether he still possesses the MVP prowess, despite his absence from the field for nearly a year.
While he has been diligently recovering, reports from practice sessions have raised concerns. Nevertheless, the Jets and his fans remain optimistic about a successful and explosive return. The team must address the issues and focus on enhancing Rodgers’ chemistry with his receivers for a prosperous 2024 season.
